Saturday and part of Sunday, minus the Packer game, is all the time that is left to clean up your yard and dispose of it before spring. The City of Madison yard waste drop off sites will close for the season at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday December 2nd. The Site at 402 South Point RD will be closed permanently.
Residents with leaves and yard waste who do not get their material to the sites this weekend can still bring material to the Sites at 1501 W. Badger Rd or 4602 Sycamore AV, compost material at home or hold it until spring.
“The yard waste sites usually close for the season the first weekend in December each year. We had hoped to keep the sites open an extra week this year due to the warmer weather but we cannot,” Madison Recycling Coordinator George Dreckmann said in a statement on the City’s website. “We staff the sites with seasonal employees whose term of employment end at this time.”
The Streets Division is going to continue to collect leaves and yard waste at the curb as long as weather permits.
“Most of the leaves in the City have been collected. It does look like we will be able to continue to collect material for at least another week,” Dreckmann said. “However, we cannot promise that we will be able to get to the material at the curb so the best thing you can do is bring the material to our drop off sites this weekend.”
The self service drop off sites at 1501 W. Badger Rd and 4602 Sycamore Av will be open winter hours starting on Monday December 3rd. Winter hours are Monday through Friday form 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The sites accept a wide variety of materials including brush, electronics, holiday lights, recyclables, and mixed rigid plastics.
Due to budget cutbacks, the yard waste site at 402 South Point Rd will not reopen next year. The Badger Rd and Sycamore Av sites will begin extended hours on March 30,2013.
